Many of these have been published in a variety of Australian magazines in her three books. Only recently, she has become the Creative Director for Quilters Companion magazine, fitting this in between designing quilts and template sets, teaching workshops, and being a grandmother. 2017 saw the launch of Michelle’s third fabric range, Punctuated for Leutenegger. While Michelle does piece and applique by hand, she is passionate about creating quilts on her sewing machine. She has been featured in 8 DVD’s for Quilters Companion, demonstrating a variety of techniques. Michelle also takes tours with fellow quilters overseas to exciting quilt shows, shops and museums with Travelrite International and Quilters Companion.

3DA52E21C82846AF8B2BBC9560B7CAA2As a textile artist I have worked mainly in abstracted landscapes using dyes, printing, collage, machine and hand embroidery. I have exhibited in galleries in Australia and overseas and had pieces selected for curated exhibitions e.g., Tamworth National Fibre exhibition and DMC Exhibition of International Embroidery.
In more recent years I have explored many embellishment techniques on clothing and textile articles, combining my love for patternmaking and clothing design with the originality of artistic expression using dyes, paints, fabrics and stitching.
I am fully qualified with a Diploma and post graduate in Colour and Design; a Diploma in Fashion with Honours; and a Diploma in Technical Teaching. I have over 25 years’ experience within the fashion industry as a patternmaker and designer. I have taught in NSW TAFE for over 15 years and I have been teaching my own private classes for the last five years.

misty mountain getaway Margaret Olive

Margaret took up Patchwork in 2000 and then purchased Patchwork Paradise in 2006 and love the joy a customer gets in selecting their fabrics for their next project. She has been teaching all various styles of classes in my shop.

Margaret started sewing Quiltworx patterns in 2012 when Judy Niemeyer came to Australia to teach Glacier Star to Shop Owner. Then she did Mariners Compass in 2013 with an Instructor and Judy via Skype and now Paradise in Blooms with Judy as an Instructor. Since becoming a Certified Shop she has taught countless classes in Cactus Flower Table Runner, Forever Yours Table Runner, Bali Bed Runner & Quilt, Chevron Landscape Table Runner, Glacier Star Quilt and Charm Elements in both the shop and groups from out of town. Margaret holds a Quiltworx day twice a month, a Tuesday and a Sunday.

She has taken to these patterns and love their simplicity and accuracy. It is such a pleasure seeing Students proud of themselves because of how beautiful their projects have turned out all because of the Quiltworx process and sewing technique.
